1 lecture on DVD
Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence’s Duomo, was built to glorify both God and Florence, a symbol of the Florentines’ faith and pride. In this lecture, richly illustrated with images, plans and diagrams, archaeologist and historian Dr. William J. Neidinger studies the history of the Duomo’s construction, from the gradual demolition of the old Santa Reparata in the 13th century to the final façade work of the Duomo in the 19th century. Special emphasis will be placed on the details of Brunelleschi’s audacious double dome. Dr. Neidinger has designed this program to interest the serious student of architecture and history as well as travelers planning to visit this quintessential Florentine monument.
